Confession: I LOVED those e-mail surveys that used to go around in high school. Even if it was one that I’d filled out before, I used to copy and paste into a new e-mail message, and happily spend an hour filling out all 2,478 questions (because, really, some of those things just went on and on!) So when the wonderful Jaime @ The Perpetual Page-Turner posted her A to Z Bookish Survey, the sixteen-year-old inside me jumped for joy!
Author You’ve Read the Most Books From:
When I last filled out this survey, Goodreads had the ability to show me my most read author but it looks like this feature is gone now? At the time it was James Patterson, but I feel like Cassandra Clare may have topped that? Although if Goodreads could track all the Sweet Valley books I’ve ever read, I doubt I’ll ever top Francine Pascal.
Best Sequel Ever:
I don’t know if any sequel has ever topped the absolute SHOCK I felt while reading than House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas.
Currently Reading:
A bunch of books! Finishing up Snapshot by Kay Cove on my Kindle, and halfway through My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney on audio and Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinnaman in physical format.
Drink of Choice While Reading:
TEA! Always and forever.
E-Reader or Physical Book:
Both! I thought I’d never become an e-reader person, but then things changed. I will always read physical books, but sometimes I like switching up the format. Plus, Kindle Unlimited is amazing!
Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated in High School:
As a recent fave, I gotta go with Dex from Across the Vanishing Sky.
Glad You Gave This Book a Chance:
An oldie, but The Girl of Fire and Thorns. I read a ton of fantasy as a kid, but then stopped as an adult, and it’s the book that got me back into young adult fantasy, which gradually moved me into picking up a few more adult fantasy.
Hidden Gem Book:
Wonder by R.J. Palacio (please, please, PLEASE read this one!!!) I feel like bullying would disappear entirely if this book was mandatory reading in elementary school.
Important Moment in Your Reading Life:
Hmm, maybe starting up a blog and joining the online book community? I’ve always been a reader, so it’s not like I have one of those moments where I can say it was THIS BOOK that made me love reading — reading’s always been a part of my life.
Just Finished
Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe – GO READ THIS BOOK.
Kind of Books You Won’t Read:
Non-fiction … well, maybe not all of them, but definitely not a genre I gravitate towards unless I have to (like required reading).
Longest Book You’ve Read:
A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin, the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, at a whopping 1,177 pages!
Major Book Hangover Because Of:
The Heartstopper TV series, but then I reread the books and busted the slump.
Number of Bookcases You Own:
Four shelves plus a bookcart in my library, but my hubby and son have more shelves around the rest of the house.
One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:
The Poisonwood Bible — once in high school for a book report, then twice more in university for two different courses.
Preferred Place to Read:
Curled up on the couch with a blanket, on a cold, rainy day.
Quote That Inspires You / Gives You All the Feels From a Book You’ve Read:
You’re never in love with anyone the way you are when you’re eighteen, on a beach, at night, with your shoes off.
– The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto, by Mitch Albom
Reading Regret:
Buying a book in hardcover and then not reading it until after the paperback is out (especially when the cover changes and it’s prettier in paperback), or buying multiple books by the same author or in the same series before I read one, and the discovering that the author/series isn’t my cup of tea.
Series You Started and Need to Finish:
I have an entire podcast episode dedicated to this — I’m trying to be intentional this year and finish some of them, but of course I’ve also added more to the list!
Three of Your All-Time Favourite Books:
The Harry Potter series (let’s just count that as one), The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson and White Oleander by Janet Fitch.
Very Excited for This Release More than All the Others:
So many! New Carley Fortune, Elsie Silver, Ana Huang, Abby Jimenez, Liz Tomforde, Catherine Cowles – and my latest obsession: Python by H.M. Wolfe, which sadly got pushed back to 2027.
Worst Bookish Habit:
Probably reading too quickly. Sometimes I wish that I read a little slower, since I’m sure I miss things along the way. Also, I forget what I’ve read really easily — I don’t know if that really counts as a habit though … just poor memory skills, or possibly connected to speed I read.
X Marks the Spot — Start at the Top Left of Your Bookshelf and Pick the 27th Book:
Used my book journal instead so it’s just my unread books: Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery. I really would like to finish this series one day!
Your Latest Book Purchase:
My latest preorders, which include Jennifer Hartmann’s upcoming release!
ZZZ-Snatcher — Latest Book that Kept You Up WAY Late
The only book I truly remember staying up wayyyyy too late reading was the Twilight series; I feel like once I became a mom and realized how truly valuable sleep is, I started being more responsible 😉
